Another triumph for The Literature Centre

The Literature Centre supports Australian authors and illustrators

I just got back from France in time to Celebrate Reading!

The annual Conference, held at The Literature Centre in Fremantle, is always a highlight of my year and this year, their 7th, was no exception. I learn so much from hearing what other authors have to say, not to mention savouring the chance to meet and chat to them face to face. Sometimes it’s a case of renewing contact with interstate writers I’ve known for years, which is just as stimulating as meeting the ones I didn’t know before. Either way the friendships made, and those renewed, are stimulating, reassuring and so much fun. The format of the conference creates an atmosphere of openness, honesty and humour that promotes the sharing of ideas. For me the whole experience is not only stimulating but reassuring as well.

This year the focus was on authors of YA novels. Illustrators were notable by their absence. But next year we are in for a real treat. Shaun Tan will be the keynote speaker and no one does picture books for older readers quite like Shaun does.

Can’t wait!
